This style of tear catching bottle was produced in Iran around the end of the 19th century. Fascinated by the form, I produced my own tear catcher and made a video documenting my attempt to use it. The title of the work refers to my feelings of being exiled from my own culture, left to wonder who I would be if I had the option to interact with the sources of my heritage more. Beyond the fact that I’m half Persian, I’m fascinated by the myth that a device could be used to bottle raw emotion.
