From 2010 to 2012, I had the pleasure of participating in the work exchange program at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA. During my time working in this renowned clay community, I developed an interest in moldmaking and ceramic slipcasting. Through the support of my Clay Studio mentors, I was able to become an Intern and Artist Assistant to the Arts/Industry Residency at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI. In addition to assisting outstanding professional artists and aiding in the day-to-day operations of the Residency program, I was given time, space and material to develop my own work.
My time at Kohler proved to be deeply impactful and inspirational. Using the history of the porcelain figurine as a point of departure, I sought to superimpose my Persian cultural heritage on the European tradition. My body of work made in Kohler's vitreous china was shown in a solo exhibition entitled Hijab at the Ohio Art League in 2013 and was featured in Columbus Alive.
