false lashes

2014
Materials: flameworked borosilicate glass, vanity tray, wallpaper.
Dimensions: 72 in x 63 in x 14 in

Using glass, I created false lashes that await selection in a vanity tray. This layering of falsity - fake, false eyelashes - points to the surreal nature of applied cosmetic “prosthetics.” As a portrait of the individual who seeks transformation via these prosthetics, both grandeur and discomfort are revealed. The overlap of the wallpaper pattern with the forms vibrates in a visually uncomfortable manner; the apparatuses for beauty come in and out of focus.
